What Is Therapy Anyway?

What is therapy, anyway? When I do telephone consultations with people I think that this question is really what people are asking: how does it work and, will it help?

When we are in pain we want to feel better, to make that pain go away. And often we distract ourselves from the pain by doing a million other things: eating, TV, movies, shopping, alcohol, sex, exercise...we all know the distractions. So when a person comes to me for help, I know that they are willing to admit to the distractions (mainly to themselves) and put their energy toward honestly confronting their feelings and working to heal them.

And to me, as I say often to my clients, therapy is about growing yourself up. With compassion and patience, uncovering the feelings and their source (preconception, prenatal, birth, perinatal, adolescent), and doing the healing work with that part, that child, or that archetype that has felt so wounded and unseen.

I ask people: what would you say to a baby, a four year old, a young adolescent? And then I ask them to quietly nurture, see and believe the little one. Growing UP right in the moment.

And it works. I have clients who come in and say: 'I have been attending to the little one in me, talking to her/him when I feel down and discouraged, just quietly and without any fuss paying attention. And you know what, it works and I feel better.'

Are you ready to grow yourself up? Call/text me 360-432-1236. I have done it and you can, too!
