In the mental health field for many years the body was not taken into account. It was almost like the head was all important in healing.
In recent years we know that the body is crucially important in the healing process. You cannot heal just by talking about it.
And with the advent of new information about the vagus nerve and it's importance in the process of self-regulation - not fight or flight/not freeze - the body becomes ever more a big deal.
The felt sense in the body of being safe.
Current information is that 80% of our perceptions of our surroundings comes from the body. 80%! So if you body feels scared, fearful,,,anxious...guess what? So does your mind. Your thoughts. Every part of you.
So when I work with clients the body is our go-to. Feeling, sensing, reading, paying attention to the body is crucial to healing.
