I have found, after many years of working pretty intensively with clients who suffer from anxiety, that most people do not know how to reset.
What do I mean by reset? The ability to move your entire being to a state of calm. To soothe yourself until you feel inner peace and quiet.
It is not something that is taught - currently. Some clients have had the benefit of loving parents or caretakers who knew how to soothe them. One way to 'know' is to have experienced a soothing feeling in your body. To have a 'felt' sense of soothing and calm. But if you come from people who do not know how to calm themselves down - no blame here - it is hard to do it for others.
The good news is that 'resetting your nervous system' can be learned! Our body actually likes to be calm so once you begin to slow things down, walk outside, look at the sky, drink some water, lie down on the floor and feel the rug or floor under you...feel your feet on the earth ( inside or not )...once you do something physical to bring yourself back to calm, your body says "YES" and wants more.
And if you are learning to reset and you have kids - YEAH! Kids learn so fast - and remember, you are teaching them a tool that will be with them and help them their entire life! And that they, IF they have children or anyone in their life, can teach future generations. Healing forward!
