I believe that for clients one of the hardest parts of healing is believing in themselves. Believing that change IS really possible for them. That they can begin to have the life they desire.
Many of my clients were never taught, or experienced loving, compassionate adults teaching them how to believe in themselves. From a very, very young age. How to make mistakes, be disappointed, feel frustrated...and keep trying. Never had anyone nudge them gently when they were discouraged, when change was taking 'too long', so that they believed that 'sticking with it' over time could produce good results.
So as adults it is hard to take on new things without getting impatient, and hard to believe that change IS possible.
So we come to the list: making a list, checking it twice. I encourage my clients to make a list and post it in several places. The list is the things that they can do, that work for them when they get discouraged. Anxious. Impatient. Like taking a hot bath, 'Tapping', taking a walk, asking for a hug or timeout...whatever works. Because when we forget that we can do it, when we are impatient and frustrated, we tend to forget what works.
What would you put on your list that works for you?
And remember that all change takes time, patience and a belief that you can do it...so make that list and USE it.
