How Do You Know When You Need Help?

Just like you, I often ask myself: do I really need help right now, or am I making this up?

How do we know when we need help? Well with the body it is easy to know: illness, pain, breaks, etc.

With our hearts and emotions it can be harder - harder to know when enough is enough, when the week of not getting out of bed or calling in sick, of feeling sick all the time, is not stopping. When we withdraw from relationships, friends, activities.

Of course this is all on a continuum from isolating or feeling sad sometimes, to isolating and feeling sad all the time. Not being able to see anything good coming in the future.

So where are you on the continuum? Feeling slightly uneasy about what seems to be a 'slide' down the rabbit hole to less and less in your life, more and more isolation and withdrawal? Or, almost not able to function?

I have been both places and I know that they are both places where we are not able to really be ourselves or have or even work toward what we most desire in life. We are stuck. And unfortunately, that 'stuckness' usually gets worse unless there is an intervention of some sort: medication, therapy, support groups...etc.

So stop right now and ask yourself: where am I? On a scale of 1 to 10 ( 1 being some discomfort, uneasiness, life is getting smaller, to the 10 of full-blown not leaving the house or reaching out ), where are you? Where are you stuck? What do you want less of? AND...what do you want more of?

I hope that if you are a 5 or over, you are calling someone, asking for help. I can help and I am not the only one. Reach out. Ask for help. THIS IS YOUR LIFE!
