I love this quote and I love the picture. Wide open vistas, mountains, the beautiful sky over us...these things make me happy.
In my elder years now, I often ponder this: the distance I have come. It reminds me of Mary Catherine Bateson's book "Composing a Life". As I finished my Master's Degree at the age of 50 and was about to set off on great adventures I read and wrote about this book. About the impact of continually 'composing a life'. What would that look like? What would it take for me to continually compose my life? And at the edge of a great life change, these were the questions I was pondering. Of course, I had no answers. What I did have was myself, who I knew myself to be and what made me happy. Those things I could use to help me in the coming days and years.
I work with clients every day who are in the process of composing their lives. They may not think of it that way, but with each step toward consciousness, each piece of the past that begins to feel mended, each small step forward they are, indeed, composing their lives. In their own time. In their own way. Hopefully with patience and self-compassion.
