Another Tool to Calm Anxiety: Music

If you come to my office to meet with me, you will almost always notice soft music in the background. Or you might not notice it, but I know that playing calming, quiet music helps the energy in the room, helps me feel calm and also will help you. How can it help? Our bodies are build to 'entrain' to the sounds around us. Before birth we are aware of sounds..often newborns recognize the mother or father, or other people who were present before birth. Some babies respond, after birth, to music that was played while they were in utero!

We are wired for sound. For many of us today, the sounds around us are way too much: too loud, too frequent, hard to block out.

There are a lot of good resources for easy, quiet and soothing music. Check YouTube for some great videos that often play for an hour or more. Begin to surround yourself with soothing, with quieting and calming and notice how it helps you!
