I Forgive

The root of “forgive” is the Latin word “perdonare,” meaning “to give completely, without reservation.” This was the original meaning.

Today the common understanding of forgive is to 'pardon for an offense', 'renounce anger at' and to 'abandon a claim'.

I like the original: to give completely, without reservation. When you look at the quote above and consider looking in the mirror, what stands in the way of you giving completely TO YOU, without reservation. To see and embrace the human being you are. The imperfect human BE-ing - like all of us - that you are?

I truly believe we all spend way too much time making ourselves wrong. Bad. Not good enough. Comparing ourselves to others.

So how can you change that? And for me, how can I help clients change how they 'see' themselves. How they can give completely, with an open heart and mind, without reservation, to themself?

I think I am going to bring a mirror into my office and ask people...at some point in their work...to look in the mirror. To begin to deconstruct the old beliefs, old ideas, old comparisons and replace them with new ones. Healing old wounds.

This is a new idea for me. Maybe it will work and maybe it won't. Maybe it will for some. And that is enough. If even a handful of my clients can begin to 'give completely, without reservation' to themselves, that is enough for me!
