For many of us...me, too...there have been many times in my life I missed the beauty around me.
Beauty being so many things: flowers, animals, my kids, my dogs...my family. Food. Water. Clouds...and so on. In those times I was too mired in my own issues, too often in either fight/flight or freeze...not able to feel grounded, present...actually experiencing life.
Now I understand so much more about how we move into - or often stay almost permanently in fight/flight or freeze. And now, with that understanding, I can help others recognize what is happening in their body and move to grounding. Calming. Thinking clearly.
One client has learned to tap her chest when she feels herself slipping into freeze, tapping softly above her heart, speaking quietly those words that help her feel safe: you are safe, you are ok, this will pass...giving herself time to get some water, go outside, go for a run...do something physical that will help her stay in a grounded ventral vagal place of safety. And it is working!
And she is teaching her children to tap their chests...say I am safe..you are safe...we all are safe! Wow. What a great thing to teach a child to self-soothe.
