Are You The One To Create Health in Your Family System?

Several years ago I came across or heard a concept I was unfamiliar with: that Native American and Indigenous people believe that in each generation a child is born who is intended to be a 'truth teller'. A child, or children, intended to break the unhealthy family patterns of destruction and dysfunction. A child intended to tell the truth about the secrets that perpetuate a malfunctioning system or family. A child who says: "there is an elephant in the living room, people. We cannot ignore it."

On first hearing and consideration, I thought: yes, I know people who fit that description. However, it is not always an easy task, being a truth-teller. Creating healthy boundaries around behaviors and secrets. Often a family system resents 'this one' who is not willing to just 'go along' with the status quo. It can be a hard path.

And yet, in my work with clients who, I believe, have been chosen for this path, I experience the grit, the determination and the overriding sense of living a bigger life. A sense, a sacred knowing, that whatever happens their work, their sacrifice is for the greater good. For it is true that families who live generation after generation in dysfunction die out after several generations. Unhealthy systems simply do not prosper and grow.

And I would say: even if you do not believe in any of the above, what are you doing to create health in you, in your life? What unhealthy patterns are you willing to admit and change? What secrets, even the ones you keep about yourself, are you willing to give up? How can your truth-telling help you, your family and the bigger global community?

I might be able to help. I have a lot of experience with truth-tellers. 360-432-1236
